Caged
A digitally curated collection, 2020
Cover photo by Victor Moriyama
At a time when the world stood still, people more than ever became acquainted with the views from their windows, and the silence filling the empty streets below them.
Caged depicts scenes of people across the world looking out while quarantined at home- featuring a range of emotions, from the comedic to the claustrophobic.
The photographs featured are a curation showcasing both professionals photographers, as well as photographs from everyday people who set out to capture neighbours and friends during the months of COVID-19.
“It's a view of the Empire State Building through plastic that symbolizes the protection and isolation we all have to endure. Since the lockdown last year, I haven't traveled more than a mile from my apartment. Here in NYC, we are surrounded by things that cover us, protect us, and isolate us. It seems impossible to separate the good from the bad in this, and it also seems that this duality may really be what is so hard to live with.” NYC, USA. March 23, 2021. Matt Milligan

“In Argentina there has been a mandatory quarantine for a week now. Sometimes I realize that many other times I have already experienced this feeling. The window begins to work like my watch, the phone as my reflection and my shadow as the darkness that accompanies me these days.” March 22, 2020. Daiana Valencia
